@14warr example.... I believe in god. (this is a correct use of the word believe as it is out of a choice that someone has decided to have faith in something) I believe in gravity (this is incorrect as gravity is not something someone can believe in or not as it simply is there) If god made people who believed in him out right it would not be a belief and therefore there wouldn't be such a thing as belief in god cos he would simply be fact. last i checked there was some faith involved in belief.

@14warr p.s. i personally believe that this story is a lovely poetic metaphor and when you study an old txt you must always look at the context to find the motive. none the less your point is useless. if one believes in god then they know he gave the people freedom of choice thus they can choose to either believe or not. if there was no choice it would not be called belief cos there is no choice. and to believe you have to make that leap of faith into something that isn't solid or certain.

@14warr ..... arguably the easiest way to point out that your statement doesn't make any sense from a religious perspective is to direct you to book one of the bible. it clearly says that a bloke ate a "forbidden fruit" and thus his eyes were open and he was given the knowledge of good and evil. this lead to freedom of choice. it also states throughout that its a choice blah de blah blah and one has to make that choice in order to believe in him..... duh.

I think its pretty safe to say that people are going to believe in the super natural forever. i know many scientists and have read many theoretical papers by individuals who are arguably intellectual geniuses and they believe in god. religion and science aren't comparable they do not contradict each other. they are different ball games.
