Trying out 160 metres AM portable from Mt Eliza on Australia Day 2011.

As you'll hear from the signal reports, this location is by far the best tried to date, with good coverage throughout Melbourne and beyond.

  • @m0dad Antenna is a (nearly) top loaded vertical on a 9m pole. Some of the other 160m videos have better pics of it. A portable DSB rig would be a great project on 160m, maybe using a 2 MHz ceramic resonator pulled down.

  • Another great video Peter. I think 160m is a great band for local ragchew nets. I sometimes use my homebrew poppet qrp tx but there is little am activity in my area, only ssb. I have not been portable for a long time but have enjoyed your videos and may give it a try when the wx is better as i live near the beach. What antenna are you using and how long?

  • @stadiumapartments Always had the Seacom. Have other rigs but the Seacom is best.

  • Hi Peter - before you had the Seacom radio, what did you used to use for 160m AM portable use and how did it compare?
