The German Art Students "Nightmare Date Experience" Live!

The German Art Students are my favorite band in Madison, WI. IMHO they deserve to be bigger in the US, or at least huge in Japan. Great songs, great vocals, and witty lyrics all in a cool powerpop package.
I've shot alot of video of GAS, but this in one of the best shows I've got in the vaults.
We shot on a Sunday night in front a small but enthusiastic crowd at The Annex in Madison, WI in early 2001. The show was part of a local music series that was done by a local promoter "Dharmakaya" and this event also featured Electric Automatic and The Cool People in addition to GAS.
Using a mix of Canon mini DV cames (XL1 and Eluras) we tried to offset the look of the handheld and wideshot with one min cam with a wide angle stuck on the end of a mic stand, and one positioned over the drummer.
The mic stand cam wound up looking pretty frentic, but works with the energy of the songs.
The "over the shoulder" angle of the drummer changed throughout the set as the mic stand the camera was mounted on kept sagging lower and lower as the set went on. Eventually it was unusable, but during the GAS set it offers a very cool angle of the drums and stage.
