El S.6B significó la culminación de la búsqueda de Mitchell para "perfeccionar el diseño del hidroavión de carreras" y fue el último de la línea de este tipo de aparatos desarrollados por Supermarine, siguiendo al S.4, S.5 y S.6/S.6A. El S.6B representó el límite en lo que a tecnología aerodinámica se refiere y fue el predecesor directo del caza Spitfire.

From wikipedia: The Supermarine S.6B was a racing seaplane developed by Reginald Mitchell for the Supermarine company in order to win the Schneider Trophy in 1931. The S.6B marked the culmination of Mitchell's quest to "perfect the design of the racing seaplane" and was the last in the line of racing seaplanes developed by Supermarine and followed the S.4, S.5 and the S.6/S.6A. The S.6B represented the cutting edge of aerodynamic technology and was the direct predecessor to the Spitfire fighter.
