This is the HALO from Pantheon Steel. I travelled to meet the creator, Kyle Cox and his family to receive this first instrument. Kyle is a great person, everything that I expected, and more. After 21 hours and 900 + miles, and after everyone else had fallen asleep, I was able to spend some time with the HALO. The first few minutes of the video I try to isolate the tonal qualities of each note. After, I do some experimental improvisation to tap into the musical qualities of the HALO.

To me, the HALO has great, deep and crisp resonant tones, wonderful harmonics, and great sustain throughout the entirety of the tone circle and the ding. This particular HALO has a different scale than the original Ake Bono. It has a C ding - F Ab Bb C Eb F G . It was created to see how versatile each tone field could be beyond the first few planned tunings. This opens up much greater diverse possibilities for the initial HALO scales that will be produced.

The HALO has fulfilled every expectation I had of it..... and then some. In my humble opinion, the HALO is a resounding success. I look forward to listening to it's evolution through the years.

Information about the HALO can be found at http://halo.pantheonsteel.com .

Many thanks to Kyle Cox and Jim Dusin for undertaking this project. And thanks to Felix Rohner and Sabina Scharer for creating the original Hang. These are truly instruments of the new millenia.

  • was this the original tuning , that they released in the video ,, i have to e mail kyle .. this is the exact tuning i want .. mine comes in august!! i cant wait

  • This tuning is being called the 7 note Minor Pentatonic 9... C ding - F Ab Bb C Eb F G. I was originally going to get the Ake Bono, but am very, very happy with this tuning. Be sure to post some vids when yours arrives. ;)

  • Sometimes during the video sounds like a gas tank drum... :-( ... nothing like a hang... or maybe a bell drum? will see the next evolution about HALO, right now I don't like it.

  • The tuning is good. But there are not much overtones. If you watch all the Hang Videos you can hear the difference. Not a problem with my speaker.

  • Have you ever tempted playing the drum with brushes or yarn mallets to see how it affects the sound?

  • I don't know what i'd have to give to get this.. put my name in the wait-list yesterday, not knowing how long it would take or how much would the awesomeness cost. I'd be thankful if someone enlightened me...

  • mine comes thisa weds yay!! ill post vids man !!! got the same tuning as you

  • im #200 on the list cant wait halo !!!!

  • I'm #96 on the list and can't decide on a scale....though this is one is a definite possibility

  • Sounds interesting. A bit metallic, haha. But anyway, i'm happy about your purchase and great experience. I have a Schlagwerk log drum now and happy with its wooden sound. But can't wait until i buy one halo for myself!

    Enjoy!
