Famous last words "we didnt respect the Americans", and as usuall Americans didnt need the respect and approval of others. These boys understood American hockey (years later of course) that you playfor the team and the team plays for the you. This was a complete opposite hockey mentality to that of the Socialist mentallity of "to each his own, to his own his needs" Russia believed in serving the State. America's sacrificre believe that the State exisits to provide its citizens with freedoms.

@KodeEMMoose O'Callahan did get injured, but the movie is inaccurate here, in that he did play some in the preliminary round.
