Can someone please tell me what type of musical instrument is playing in the theme at 0:16? I'm referring to the staccato, low-frequency/baritone horn. Thanks!

First three reasons, but there are many others.
1. Great script, grat plot, great lines.
2. Akira Kurosawa.
3. Katsushiro. (I heard while they were filming this, women did all sorts of crazy stuff to come and see Isao Kimura on set *giggles)

FANTASTIC FILM, GREAT ACTING, AND AKIRA KUROSAWA!

What always strikes me of Seven Samurai is how he managed to get such realistic fighting scenes. It's not a simple battle....it's a brutal fight for survival....like all real wars are.

Just need 1- IT'S THE "SEVEN SAMURAI"

1. A deep, well-developed plot with awesome actors and emotional plot elements
2. A chance to see so many now-common film plot elements being used for, arguably, the first and most influential time
3. Toshiro Mifune's character Kikuchiyo :D

Because he spends half of the film developing INTERESTING characters
Because it has incredible scenes
Because it's Akira Kurosawa
... actually... there are about a million reasons.
Because it's one of the greatest films of all time.
