This song has a message worth considering...
War only causes suffering, I'm afraid.

There is a john denver 12 string version on you tube. I'm sure you'll do it really well whatever you play it on.

Hi, the chords as I play them are quite basic. I don't have my guitar with me now, but from the top of my head it's: D-G-D-A-D-Bm-Em-A7-D G-D-A-D-G-D-Bm-Em-A7-D. In this video I played the song with capo up 1. Good luck!

Hi Jeroen, I have been familiar with this song most of my life. You do an additional verse I had never heard - "When I awoke twas just a dream ..." Thank you for such a heartfelt rendition.

Thank you Joe. I'm glad you liked it. As I understand it, that additional verse was not part of the original song by Ed McCurdy. This one was added years later by a female folk singer, but I liked it enough to include it here.

This is a wonderful video my friend almost as good as John Denver. People tell me that this is one for the 12 string. I haven't quite learnt it yet but I hope to do a good version once I've got it down. Peace & Love to you from Albert UK

Hi Albert, and thanks for your kind words. Funny, I never even thought about this one on the 12 string. I'll give it a try, and I'll keep an eye out for your own version! ;-)
