Today, June 19, Dr. José Rizal, recognized as one of the most significant national heroes of the Phillippines, was born in 1861 in Laguna. A brilliant student, he mastered 22 languages and was a man of many vocations including being a physician, architect, inventor, artist, and naturalist. Mr. Rizal was also a renowned patriot and established a nonviolent-reform society called the Phillippine League. He was respected for his intelligence, friendliness, humility. His devotion to human rights was also inspirational to many. Mr. Rizal's poem, "Last Farewell," considered a masterpiece of the 19th century Spanish verse, shares his love of his country and the Phillippine people. May Dr. José Rizal's rich legacy continue to be remembered and honored for generations to come.
