Archive footage of 4472, Flying Scotsman, on the mainline. The loco is first seen at Steamtown, Carnforth in 1988 being prepared for a special and then in 1990 is seen leaving Carnforth with an excursion to Sellafield and at Arnside on the return.
Other clips include running on the North Wales coast and Settle and Carlisle routes between 1990/1. Obviously not true HD, the footage is a mix of VHS and super VHS.

  • Now that she is all renewed, I hope to see her do the Edinburgh to King's Cross run again! I would pay a fortune to ride on that.

  • Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't try to do anothet run like that

  • Since Tornado hit the mainline last year it is very important to keep Flying Scotsman in the forefront. We the people of the world and steam community would like more Oscar-Winning performances from this grand lady. Michael Palin said OSCAR WINNNING as a way of describing 4472 after his trip from Manchester to York.

  • Once the repairs are finished we should see some good performances from her

  • Nicely shot with great sound as usual Austin. Great regulator skills demonstrated at Chester.

  • Thank you, yes it was a smart departure from Chester.

  • Lol, if you paused at 2:00, you can hear a car engine sound!

  • Hi, I just seen some photos of 4472's restoration in 2010. In 2010, the NRM had fitted its new boiler!

    Regards, Scotsman125.

    Bye!

  • Hey that's Ryan the Flying Scotsman 4472. He does alot of work around London with his friends Allen, Herbert, Hiro, Stephen, Debo, and Alfred. He hauls excursion trains and passenger trains. Scott never likes Ryan because Ryan is the real Flying Scotsman. For Nikka's advice he is the first mainline engine the Steam Team saved from scrap.

  • Thanks Matt, thats an interesting thought about Mallard, perhaps even 46229 could have been restored without the streamlining especially as 6233 comes out of service this year.
