So I got really tired of recharging batteries, and the batteries were getting really old and would not hold a charge any more. Plus as some of you may know, I have broken my wife's camera once before in the past. Therefore I bought a webcam. Not a real fancy one, but certainly one that does not require batteries.

So here is my test video, a seriously-overplayed version of Ghosts of War. I am trying to get my speed in order again, so this tune was an excellent exercise in attaining that goal. For the most part, I do okay, but there are a couple of fills I would like to have back, and that last note is a little late and is driving me nuts. But that's me.

This tune reminds me of high school, cruising around trying to avoid cops while we did things kids do. Ghosts of War was definitely the fastest tune off of South of Heaven, an album that at the time made a lot of us Slayer fans wonder if they sold out. They did not. LOL.

So enjoy my first vid with a new webcam...a little better framerate now. Forgive the rhythm discrepancies and odd timed notes...one does not get thrash skills back overnight, and I'm starting to get a bit old, admittedly. Not only that, but if you think this is what Tom Araya plays, you are mistaken. tom has all that vocal crap to worry about, so the bass on this tune is the simple driving of pedal notes.

  • Man you hit the strings fuckign hard. Reminds me of me quite a bit too. I use 3mm picks to dig in there and help my attack. That and being used to playing on a .110 E string makes me hit the strings hard,.

  • For me it is 0.88mm picks and a 1.05mm E string, but the idea is the same...attack, attack, ATTACK!

  • This sounds better with the bass louder, SHAME on all thrash bands for not mixing the bass louder!

  • Those high school days were good, luckily no one got in trouble.

  • RIP \m/

  • @plangentmusic Nope, Araya's basically just playing quarter notes and eighth notes to complement each hit on the kick drum. Gives the song a nice headbanging feel...this version is sick, but for the most part it wouldn't be realistic given that Araya's actually expected to sing in addition to playing. Gotta tell ya, it ain't easy singing while playing fast shit like that on bass! :)

  • That isn't what Araya is playing, right? You're elaborating on it and doubling the guitar rhythms in spots? VERY nice job! You owned it bro.

  • @Albee213 not all thrash,just listen to anthrax,megadeth,or flotsam & jetsam...

  • Damn I need to give the bass more respect and Arayas bass playing...Araya is fucking awesome.....but so are you dude you rocked the ghosts of war into hiding with your monster bass playing

  • That was awesome!!!! lovin this

  • Ideal playing!!!

  • This is sick as hell !!!

  • that is one bad ass cover
