During puberty, new fat cells are being created and distributed throughout the body, such as in the abdomen, thighs, hips, and arms. Once fat distribution stops, the cells then either become bigger or smaller, based on the individuals weight gain or loss. The number of fat cells does not change; genetic disposition determines where the weight is distributed.

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that redistributes the fat to create a leaner, natural-looking, beautiful physique. Miami, Florida plastic surgeon Dr. Mendieta can provide a better shape, contour, and waistline through liposuction surgery. After surgery, should weight fluctuate, it will be evident in areas that were not targeted. These areas still contain fat cells that are susceptible to growing should the patient gain weight; however, the areas of the body where liposuction was performed will not show change at all.
