Covered by Tori Amos in MONA LISA SMILE .

Thanks for the lyrics: www.hereinmyhead.com (I guess this is the best website about Tori!!)

Finally found a fella
almost completely divine
but his vocabulary
is killing this romance of mine

we get into an intimate situation
and then begins this character's conversation

he says, murder, he says
every time we kiss
he says, murder, he says
at a time like this
he says, murder, he says
is that the language of love?

he says, solid, he says
takes me in his arms
and says, solid, he says
meaning all my charms
he says, solid, he says
is that the language of love?

he says, chick chick
you torture me
zoom, are we livin?
i'm thinkin of leaving him flat

he says, dig dig the jumps
the old ticker is giving
he can talk plainer than that

he says, murder, he says
every time we kiss
he says, murder, he says
keep it up like this
he says, murder, he says
in that impossible tone

we'll bring on nobody's murder
but his own

he says, jackson, he says
and my name's marie
he says, jackson, he says
shoot the snoot for me
he says, jackson, he says
is that the language of love?

he says, mmmhmm
when he likes my hat
he says, tsk tsk tsk
what the heck is that?
he says, woo hoo! he says
is that the language of love?

  • I love both versions. People: songs don't come with fuckin' RULES. Singers, arrangers, musicians interpret at will; it's PERSONAL, unique to every performer. NO "right" or "wrong"! Betty's performance is a joy and reflects her bubbly, over-the-top self. Tori's version is coy and sexy. Both are perfect for their respective settings. Not to mention--if Tori'd done it like Betty y'all would've sneered at her for being a copycat! Oh, and Tori DID say ZOOT. Zink?! WTF are those posters talkin' about?

  • @SmackLoons CIAO from italy ;-) I perfectly agree with you ;-))))))))))

  • Yikes. What an awful rendition of this classic. Even Anita O'Day's version is better. Sorry.

  • Tori is a crooner at heart, she would have fit right in with that era, and if she had been performing then, you guys would be reminiscing about her right now. But I'm glad she was born later. This is a treat, but her abilities IMO had a higher calling.

  • @kyshtym How can you love music when the technicalities are so important to you?

  • how dare you people complain that Tori doesnt "measure up"... you are idiots that wouldnt recognize a diamond from a dirt clod. There is no one that comes close to the talent and brilliance of Tori Amos. I fear for the state of humanity

  • I guess the people commenting on the "not as animated as Betty Hutton" haven't seen the movie and don't realize that Tori is performing all of these songs in the background at a WEDDING. This isn't the Dan Band, so generally wedding performers are a bit toned down.

  • @gattacca94 More like the naughty '40s, technically.

  • @superhetoric gotta convince me... yeah. I just watched Judy and you right.. maybe it was the orchestra

  • I actually like this cover!! No it's not as animated as Betty Hutton but she's not Betty Hutton so she would obviously have a different take on it. Good job Tori!!!
