I was asked if I could help figure out why someones car was idling too high so I made this video about a few possible causes. I also decided to check the fuel pressure while cranking just to satisfy my own curiosity.

  • i have a 97 crown vic, it acts very sluggish, when reaching speed up to 70-90mph starts to slow bck down, would this have to do with clogged converters and 02sensors, looking into buying 4 new cats and 02 sensors, will this make a difference? what do i do, /? my check engine light is on, sometimes flashing..

  • @coronadojose36 It could be the cats clogging up, first thing to do would be to get the codes pulled and find out what they are. If you want to test the cats quick you can pull the O2 sensors out and this will relieve any backpressure in your exhaust, if it has power again then the cats are plugged.

  • I didnt see a mass airflow sensor on there, but I have seen those cause idling issues on certain fords. I love the sound of this car even though its ticking lol

  • @More350Power This one had the older speed density system so it has a manifold absolute pressure sensor instead of a mass air flow sensor.

  • check engine light on?

  • @pisser20001 Nope, check engine light isn't on in my car

  • @bah53 the cars has now been sitting for a month, just cranked it and the engine is shaking, has rough idle, and when in drive, it will not accelerate past 10mph with the peddle down to the floor!..it obviously got worse!

  • @JakeDaSnakeFilms I know whats wrong...it's a ferd..lol get a chevy j/k on a serious note bud if it has a lack of power it could be the motor is tired and don't have much compression or a clogged fuel filter/injectors but a lack of power indicates a fuel related issue and possibly not enough fuel getting to the motor or the motor is just tired all together

  • ok i have the same prob. i have a 87 vic runs like a beast but after a long trip one day i pulled up to a stop light and the idle started to romp it revd so hi and next thing i no it started to spin the tires a lil bit so i had to shut it off started it drove it home have not had the same prob. now it dies at stops some times it seems to only do it when i hit the gas and let off fast befor i stop i cleand the IAC still does it

  • he is talking about my 87 crown vic every time i would start it the engin would race

  • @phazer277 well, I put my hand over the exhaust tip (both of them) & the flow feels strong.

  • @JakeDaSnakeFilms Have you checked the catalytic converter?

  • @JakeDaSnakeFilms lol i was gonna say put that in it um thry putting some octane booster in it and switch to mid grade because it may not be able to burn all of that fuel since its a higher grade

  • @partyfriek I'm almost afraid to say this, but premium
