I remember about 10-15 years ago when Larry Ellisson was CHAMPIONING cloud computing through the "Java OS set-top box" or "Network PCs".
I remember him mocking the idea of having to open "silly cardboard boxes" and use wasteful amounts of CDs to install a program once.
Anyone else remember that? Regardless, "The Cloud" approach is here to stay.

This guy is sooo rich, the wealth just literally just shines of his skin... :D

Prasannak - That's not entirely accurate. Multi-Tenancy security layouts address most of the security aspects of cloud computing. There are some whitepapers out there by Cisco/NetApp/VMware that will asplode your head.

prasannak - YOu state that banks don't use cloud. I won't go into it but I can tell you they 100% use cloud

Cloud is nothing but..."restricted exposure of confidential information". If you want to fully restrict the flow of confidential information, run the application inhouse and sit next to it. ..don't cloud it. As long as there are Virus, malware, Adware, spyware, hackers ..cloud's won't work ..Thats the reason banks don't use cloud. If any of the bad software gets into cloud, all customers get impacted.

Oracle will loose millions of dollars if business is run in cloud because it is a shared model having "One support contract" with vendor etc.... Oracle bought "BEA Systems (Middleware) , Sun Microsystems (Solaris/Sparc.. etc). If everything goes to cloud he cannot make money. Only one .... the cloud guy pays money..not the individual customers.
I so agree with Larry's sentiments about cloud computing used as a buzzword. I can't stand people lecturing me about "getting in the cloud" when they have no idea what they are talking about.
cloud computing is another advertising slogan
