I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Are you saying that we can't appreciate God as a metaphor without believing it exists?

But Karen Armstrong is a Muslim right? She believes in Islam.

Religion Think; the latter, carried out with intellectual honesty i.e. rational rigour, would negate the former. So, not quite there yet.

I found this book a "good read", and a helpful discussion of the currently-popular "war" between religious fundamentalism, and what I call "militant atheism".
Many of her thoughts and practices strike me as being quite Buddhist in approach.

Some people like you are confused. Other people aren't confused. Please don't project your confusion onto other people.

We can have that without the confusing supernatural language, thank you.
The taoteh ching was so nonsensical. I cant believe people base their lives on that book.

The best way to understanding Karen Armstrong is to read her books. Most of the comments being asked or made can be answered in her books. I recommend A History of God as a start, its very informative and whether you are Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic, or just another human being searching for meaning to life, you will appreciate her books on the subject of religion and God.

Question: what is the difference between Karen Armstrong's type of God and a non-existent God?

metaphor and the appreciation for abstract expressionism and how it influences how we interpret the world and environment and our place in it.
