The average joe needs to be educated about NYPD traffic. They are NOT COPS. They are minimum-wage mutts with an 8-hr security license whom the city gives a badge, patch, and uniform to so they don't get treated like other municipalities parking enforcement (see Parking Wars on A&E). They are civilian employees of the P.D. just like EMTs are civilian employees of the F.D. although they get to dirty up the "FDNY" patch. Oh and don't insult a real cop by calling a traffic agent "Officer".
