Part of a eight part series documentary on the Martial Arts of south and south east Asia, originally broadcast on the BBC in the early 1980s. This episode follows the very old, yet ever developing, Philippino martial art, Eskrima. It has developed, largely, due to the use of knives in the Philippines and teaches one how to defend against and use knives or small blades. Part 2 of 4 parts.

  • @rickmann83 I don't think i was very specific, i am distuingishing the difference between them, the one your talking about is an agriculture version of the kampilan or talibong as the northern anamist called it, the hindus and muslims adjusted these tools and turn them into more of a weapon then just a agriculture tool, used mostly for farming. the muslims even created guns and cannons.

  • @copypacercopypacer they have just stated that they have inherited the kampilan from their lumad ancestors, and you are insisting that they are not kampilan,it is widely used in the entire archipelago,i dont know what the big fuzz about this kampilan is all about when even the moros in mindanao are also once lumad before islam was introduced to them, what do you suppose they were using at that time?did they just abandon all their ways and throw away their weapons when they embraced islam.

  • @rickmann83 the two handed war kampilan is exclusive to the muslims, the kampilans your talking about aren't really kampilans, just semi big swords mostly used for agriculture instead of war and is one handed and small.

  • @copypacercopypacer yes they are lumad..and the point that we're discussing is in you insiting that the kampilan are exclusively used by muslims, the kampilan were widely used through out the archipelago was my point

  • @rickmann83 i do hope you realize that the manobo are lumad and they are anamist that didn't fight in wars or battles, especially against the spaniards, only the muslims fought the spaniards in mindinao.

  • @copypacercopypacer The Royal Kampilan is owned by a 4th Generation Datu “Datu Insing” of a Manobo Tribe in Mount Balaas,San Fernando, Bukidnon, Mindano, Philippines (circa 1979)

The Royal Kampilan Sword is never used as a tool for work, instead it’s solely used as a weapon in the execution of justice, power and authority..The religious beliefs of the Manobo are revolved around the concept that there are many unseen spirits who interfere in the lives of humans. kampilan is not exclusively muslim

  • @rickmann83 thats stupid, there are no artifacts of any non muslim kampilans used in the regions of luzon and visayan. tribes such as the tagologs only used small machetes (bolos) only the muslims used the kampilan. if you find a kampilan, chances are they came from a muslim. lapu lapu is a muslim because he used the kampilan, the last king of tondo had a kampilan and he was muslim

  • Honestly when did any animist or pintado used the Damascus steel forging in history, evidences or lack of it in this case speak for themselves.

The Maguindanao & Maranao used this knowledge of Damascus steel forging Kampilans, I encourage you to research this.

I don't want to take credit on anything but you should at least acknowledge the facts & it's logic, not your preconceived biases.

    Cheers!

  • @ronmac05ad toinks, steady your horses mate..kampilans are widely used through out the whole archipelago not just by muslims..visayans use kampilan as well as natives even some are in mindanao area..we cant deny the facts that there are arab influence since there are also arab traders, there are also chinese influence among islanders as well as indian, is it safe to assume then that we are also buddhist? moro's has preserved their tradition since they were not conquered unlike mostly the archi.

  • @rickmann83 copypacer is right on the money.

Kampilan was produced by the moro(maguindanao & maranao royalty tribes) using damascus steel forging(arabian muslim knowledge) which the pintados or any animist didn't have the knowledge back in those days neither the spanish colonizers with their rapier espada (toledo spain forged).
