Seventh video. One of my personal favorite tracks in the game, this is the background music for Key Cavern, the third dungeon of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. It is this video that pioneered the echoing technique.

Key Cavern is as its name implies - abundant with keys. There are exactly nine small keys and one Nightmare Key, and both floors of the dungeon itself are -- you guessed it -- shaped like keys.

Here's a little bit of trivia not too many people know. Key Cavern is the only dungeon in Link's Awakening that does not contain the Spark enemy. In case you don't know what the Spark is, it's the enemy that travels around a room of a dungeon hugging the walls, and it can be turned into a fairy if you use the boomerang on it. All seven of the other dungeons have Sparks, and a number of other places do too, but, curiously, they are present nowhere in Key Cavern. Of the original eight dungeons, Key Cavern also has the most unique enemies ("unique" meaning that they are exclusive to one dungeon only). They are the Pairodd (a pair of birds that teleport away and fire at you if you come to close) and the two varities of Bombite. Interesting, no? Hope you enjoy the video.

  • I may be thinking of the wrong dungeon, but if I remember correctly, the Key Cavern was also the only dungeon that you could complete with a spare key. (Without exploiting glitches, that is.)

  • Yes, that is also correct. The bottom floor has a part that has four doors, all of which require a key to get in. Three of the four doors only contain other keys, while the other one actually takes you to a place you need to go. You could very easily wind up not traveling to three rooms and having one extra key by the time you beat the boss.

  • Really? I always thought Eagle's Tower was king when it came to unique enemies.

    In any case, great job!

  • Eagle Tower is a close second. It has the Anti-Kirby and the Big Keese if you include them; technically the Big Keese are part of the mini-boss battle against the Grim Creeper. It also has Gibdos, but Turtle Rock has them too, so they don't qualify.

But Eagle Tower does have the most unique enemy ("unique" meaning that the enemy is the most creative). The Anti-Kirby rules!

  • key cavern is also the easiest and most simple dungeon of link's awakening.

  • I FREAKING HATE PAIRODDS

  • Mmm... Key Cavern. One of my favorite dungeons in Awakening. I REALLY need to play this one through again... Great job, as always :D

  • sounds just like it, with the gameboys and all!

  • Actually I believe ihasmario's To Far Away Times was the first to have echoing gameboys.

  • This is true as well. They're only good for killing enemies and your possible demise. Even still, you have that leftover key even if you don't go to those rooms. They put it there so you can go back to it later on if you chose to skip them or take the right/wrong door. No matter what, you'll always end up with that extra key. Design error, ftw. xD

  • True, but without the key in the final room before the boss, it's possible that one would be able to clear the dungeon, but not be able to explore all the rooms (There are two rooms in the dungeon that you need a key to unlock, but the room also gives you a key. They're fully optional).

  • There's another piece of trivia about this dungeon:

Its boss is the only one in the game without a speaking role.

  • How the hell did u do this shit on Mario paint, damn this is nice homie, sounds just like the game!!

  • Let me tell you how awesome this composition is. This composition is so awesome that I woke up this morning with this tune in my head. Not the actual Key Cavern theme from Link's Awkening, but this, THIS Mario Paint redo.

    Great job.
