@boyxdance Uh... language, like culture, is neither static, nor are there are "wrong" popular usages except in the dimmed eyes of purist snobs, but no one gives a fig about their pedantic worldview. Pop music is an abbreviation AND a derivation of "popular music"--not exclusive concepts, professor. EVERYONE knows that pop music is an abbreviation of popular, professor, no one thinks it came from popcorn.

@boyxdance Pop art is a specific style of art (Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, etc.) For music, too, it carries a definite specificity (Top 40 hits). "Pop" music derives from, but is not equivalent to, "popular" music.
