  • Hal Smith is the MASTER. How many drummers would try to do this without hiding behind an array of a dozen drums and cymbals? It really takes a master, and he makes it look so easy and always perfect.

  • What a great rendition of this old standard. I was wondering what happened to more recent posts of Neville Dickie. I finally found some of yours from 2009. Thanks for posting. This guy is one of the greatest practitioners living today of the Waller style. I listen to this song when I go to bed and when I wake up. It cheers me up and gets me ready for the day. Thanks again you bring joy to many people with these great posts.

  • @EaglesLair27, You can do an easy search for Neville on my channel page & avoid all the junk that would come up in a search of all of Youtube. Make sure you find the ones I did of him and Danny Coots during the Orange County classic Jazz Festival, & others at the Blind Boone Ragtime & Early Jazz Festival, etc.

  • Sorry to have to correct you,JokinJoe,but there is such a thing as bad music, just as there is bad science and bad art!Pop hardly deserves the appellation music, which is why this degenerate art form is no longer referred to as popular music. What we experience on this clip is great talent, elegance and feeling for the rhythm and technique-even if there were no electricity it could still be enjoyed. But,of course;it is all subjective.

  • You know, I like Jazz and Rag and stuff, but what I don't like is the elitist attitude some of you have towards people who enjoy modern music. There's no such thing as bad music... it's all subjective. So get your head out of your ass.

  • @EaglesLair27,

Thanks for the great comments, & you are RIGHT! Neville is fantastic.

I have quite a few videos of Neville that I've collected on the trail of trad jazz & ragtime festivals I've attended.

  • Can't quit coming back to these posts of Hal and Neville...They are the best!! Thanks again Tom!!
