@bs4e I am partial b/c I am a metal chick ... but I will say this (though I very much don't like rap) the old school stuff had deep substance about living on the streets, being poor etc. It is sad that today 99 percent of it is about sex, promiscuity, and "ass and tits" .... if you know what I mean. Of course you also have country, and jazz which has lots of soul (I just don't enjoy listening to it) ... for me metal delivers it in such a dramatic way it gets the adrenaline flowing

@Trueghostgirl oh gosh don't tip on other genres. yes mainstream music doesn't have a lot of substance, but why does everyone attack rap. you have to listen to the right stuff. but i don't agree with metal lacking soul, so i agree with you on that.

Metal lacks soul? I've listened too metal my whole life and the reason why I listen too only metal is because (in my opinion) the message is more deep and delivered in a much more powerful way compared too genres like pop and rap, which just sing about shaking your ass. I listen too all metal ... from hardcore too symphonic metal and the message and the topics in songs within the metal genera have a huge range of messages and topics that I couldn't list if I had too!

At least they sound different. I've been looking for metal sounds that are unique. This is one of the first times I've stopped at something unique and worth purchasing. I still say Within Temptation is one of the greatest bands ever and if you watch their live version of Ice Queen (Black Symphony) I think you'd agree...

I got into metal music recently but as a whole it seems to often lack soul to be honest. I love the genre but music like this really keeps it alive for me...
