From my old 8mm movie archives, (excuse the poor quality) A pair of Alco's assist a heavy coal train eastbound at the former PRR. AR tower. Its 1973 which brings us to Penn-Central era.

  • As much as I hate to say it, if I were around in '73 I would've taken ALCOs and (now classic) EMDs and GEs for granted. For the time it was what the ES40/ES44s and even the EMD SD70s (all varieties) are today. Just common stuff...

I could see it now. Out railfanning in that era "oh..it's just an ALCO darn it!"

Anyway, I'm loving the classic vids Ed!

  • who is that guy running along side the train?

  • Beauty- Great video, 5/5 and fave!

  • Classic footage! I was 2 when this was filmed!

The first 2 egines are probably scrap now, the last 3 after that are probably still in service today somewhere...Awesome video! 5*****!

  • Great stuff!
