A look around the engine room of the McAllister Sisters following her recent repower. The original EMD 16-645E2's were replaced withTier II compliant EMD 8-710's; with a more effecient design including electronic fuel injection, turbocharging and multipass aftercooling, the new engines put out more HP than the original engines, despite only having half the number of cylinders. Gotta love the new technology.
Engine monitoring is via EMDEC, which features a touch panel to observe pressuers and temps, including main bearing temps. Any alarms are auto logged into the system history. The only thing I dont like is there is no tracking of fuel consumed per hour/day, or total fuel burned. Pretty nice otherwise. ;.)
