  • Whats your opinion on playing with finger picks vs. not using any?

  • @Balcorus I only play with finger picks. My favorite setup is metal finger picks on index, middle, and ring fingers, and a plastic pick on thumb.

In order to play with fingernails, you either have to have very strong nails (which some people have done everything--from using nail polish, to wearing fake fingernails, to eating gelatin--to try to improve) or play very quietly.

I believe Les Gustavsen-Zook plays with fingernails though. He is amazing to listen to.

  • Hey jesseplymale,

how much did you purchase the autoharp for?

  • @PyramidHeadRox I bought the autoharp on eBay (probably around $150), then put a new string set on it ($75) and a new 18-bar Buck Lumbert chord bar set ($160). Then around 4 or 5 hours of work (that's with practice--the first 'harp I "upgraded" probably took me twice that long!).

  • wow amazing technique!

i am new to this, just got me an oscar schmidt as well... mine is chromatic!

how about yours? is it diatonic?

  • @whyattenk That particular one I have tuned as an F/C diatonic.

  • absolutely LOVE your playing! what a treat. thanks for the chordbar info. I am in the process of changing out a harp and making decisions is a challenge!

  • Thank YOU for putting this on UTube. I do like your song, your instrument, and especially your style. Enjoyed it very much! I just acquired an Oscar Schmidt from a neighbor. If I can keep it and can learn how to play, I may join a local Dulcimer group. (smile)

  • oh and where to buy chord bars accordingly?! :)

  • ok is there any forum or site that helps me know how to tune diatonically? i am already a guitars since 14 years so i have the knowledge i just need charts... thanx for your help mate :)
