Joe Bennett is performing this evening August 24, 2010 at the Chapman Cultural Center plaza in Spartanburg, SC at 9:30 pm. Be there! Casual business attire, dancing and tons of music
My wife and I were there in Green Bay in 2005, and were fortunate to have dinner with Joe and Howard after this performance. I missed a lot of their show because I was performing with the Rockabilly Hall band in the casino. No video of that- - cameras aren't allowed. :-(
The sparkletones were the biggest "holy crap they should have been big, but weren't" group of the 50s -60s. They had such potential, but just didn't get the big breaks like some. "Black Slacks" was easily a potential top 10 or 5 on the charts, but only went to 17. That song would be "majority" voted as better than many top tens of it's time. Another song, "Boys do Cry" is also a gorgeous tune and could have at least done top 30 & maybe top 20, but didn't even chart period. Sad, just sad.
My brother used to take guitar lessons from Mr. Bennet.
