This is a no-frills trailer for the only PC game I ever finished and released - Maziac. The game is actually fairly decent, if simplistic, and unreasonably hard. Written in Game Maker 5 (the one with incredibly slow software-driven graphics engine with excruciatingly sluggish alpha features), the game demonstrates some cool lighting effects for a 2D platformer. It can be downloaded here: http://www.yoyogames.com/games/show/4

The project was started as a code experiment for another, as of yet unreleased game, and was essentially finished in a month or so. The goal was to prove to myself that I can actually finish a game, no matter how unambitious. It was then essentially abandoned for a year after my "publisher" refused to put up the game on their website due to an easter egg of questionable taste I was silly enough to include. Eventually, the game was finished and polished, questionable content removed, and "published" by EO Game Maker community.

  • So, what was the easter egg then? Please tell! :)

  • Alright - I'll tell: )

In the original release of the game, upon completing the campaign the player was presented with a picture of the main character in various stages of undress based on their performance. I am generally opposed to such cheepness, but did this in an effort to attract attention of the ADD-prone GM dev community that has ignored my game otherwise. The feature was since locked, but can be activated by entering: UDUDUDUDUDUD (Up=U, Down=D) on the title screen.

  • A word of caution, however - the pictures are extremely crude and amateurish - done in about ten minutes, and aren't generally worth the effort of beating the game.

There are other codes you can enter at the title screen, among them: (Down=D, Up=U, Left=L, Right=R)

DULLRD - Start right before the final boss with 500 coins and 5 crystals

LURDUD - Start before final boss with nothing.

    RURURUD - Secret message

LUDR - Start in the ass-end-of-nowhere location with 5 crystals

  • dude that's awesome! i use gm7 lite right now but im savin for pro :)

  • GM7 is good - I bought it, but haven't started using it yet - sticking with GM6 for now. I keep patting myself on the back for pulling off those light effects in GM5 though - imagine - a dev package without surface or alpha capabilities: )

  • I used to be able to finish a game....

  • To some extent, almost like Samus in the Metroid games. But a bit more... spicy, I bet. (I never did get far in the game, and never got the continue function to work properly, so I'm just guessing).

  • Tried it out - it's actually a really fun game. :)

  • Wow - this is really cool. I gotta try it. Nice graphix - luv the lighting fx.
