This is the Melvindale Thunderbolt 1003 that el1998p71 and I recorded today at the same time. I recorded this because I have to be at a family reunion during my next siren test day. That's why I recorded this so I can have a siren recorded for Sept. Melvindale test their Thunderbolt 1003 weekly every saterday at 1:00PM. The building you see in the video is the Senior Center which is the tallest building in the city of Melvindale and this is also right next to Melvindale High School.

  • So is this loud when you hear it?

  • Pretty much.

  • was/is it on the senior building so they could hear it

  • I think its because its the tallest building in Melvindale and they wanted a siren to be placed high so it would cover the whole city I suppose. This is the only siren Melvindale has.

  • is there a higher pitched tone like most of the tbolts i heard?

  • Yeah this is chopper level 3. The highest it can get it 7.

  • can you record hi-lo?

  • One of the best quality videos you've made yet. It sounds just like it should in the Cold War era. Great wind-up too.

  • i hate this thing but now its like once every first saturday of the month at 1:00 pm

  • Something occurred to me yesterday. I remember hearing a Thunderbolt going off on a Saturday when I was playing basketball at a friends house in Allen Park. I wasn't expecting to hear anything since it wasn't the first Saturday of the month. We all stopped for a couple seconds, looked at each other and kept playing. I assume it was this siren we were hearing.

  • Great video! That's a nice sounding thunderbolt.

  • I know, that's what I'm thinking. But then again, when it goes off, it's not usually on the test time.

  • usually they get used to it happening at the same time so if they notice it going off at another time, its for real and they should be prepared to take action.

  • yeah you can hear it.

  • that thing is so much louder in person...

but it does get seriously annoying

  • All of Wayne County except Melvindale and a Refinery Plant in Detroit test monthly at 1:00PM every first Saturday of each month.
