For Centuries, Creole wood carvers of Louisiana have produced outstanding works of art in their carvings of working wooden decoys, decorative decoys, and most recently, realistic sculptures of birds and waterfowl in their natural habitat. This documentary presents the work of Charles Hutchison, his brother Rudolph Hutchison and his son Eric Hutchison. Their work is in great demand. In 1980, their habitat group of two life-sized bald eagles sold for $24,000. The late Charles Hutchison developed the "soft feather" technique, where each feather is carved and painted to scale from an individual piece of wood. It is not unusual to find more than 5,000 pieces of wood in one of the Hutchison carvings.
