In 1996 a school was founded on the upper east side using the principals of emergent curriculum, progressive pedagogy across all academic disciplines and a strong focus on developing each child's individual strengths while cultivating his/her own voice.
The founders named the school Ella Baker after one of the most monumental unsung heroines of the Civil Rights Movement, Ella Josephine Baker.
This video installation is a live storyboard for a full feature length documentary entitled Guide My Feet: The Legacy Of Ella Baker. The film has been shot, edited and directed by the elementary and middle school students at the Ella baker school under the direct Guidance of Ilan Cole Weissman, Ella Baker's Multi-media arts and performance teacher.
