The project was to choose a font family and promote the special attributes of the chosen font family.

During my extensive brainstorm for this project, I begin to think about modernism and how we live in condensed but fast forward world. We expect big things in small packages at the click of a button. We expect our car to start up at the turn of a key. We expect quality at a compromising cost. These thoughts lead me to walk through IKEA. I knew a modern furniture store with great prices, innovative designs, and unique ways of packaging big items into small boxes would spark some ideas. As I walked through the store, I noticed how all the tables were round. Every item had a modern design that incorporated a look and feel different than your grandmother's furniture. I knew after leaving IKEA, I wanted to pick a font that was modern with simple geometric forms. This sold me on choosing a san serif font because it is viewed as clean and doesn't provide excess clutter on long documents. I chose to use Futura because it has an appearance of efficiency and forwardness. The font Futura has near perfect circles and curves in the forms of its letters. The long road of looking at furniture led me to compare this font not only to furniture but also cars. When I look at this font, it looks fast yet still keeps its clear and concise look. I will promote the fonts perfect curves and clean look. Futura compares to sport cars as it can the flashy, fast, and enticing like the look of a nice sports car but still is bold enough to make a statement on paper.

  • wes anderson goes apeshit for futura bold

  • They use these fonts for DOCTOR WHO

  • Good job on the video. I also love to use Futura. What's crazy is that it's almost a century old but still has a certain dynamism today. I like your comparison of Futura to cars; some of your type treatment (white on black) is actually much like some Volkswagen ads. I would disagree though that Futura is ideal for long documents. When there is a lot of text, I believe a serif typeface is better (when appropriate) because serif fonts have greater legibility/readability than sans serifs. Peace.
