  • You may be right but don't forget they had other bass players in Motown trying to emulate the GREAT MAN. I just feel it that it lacks his warmth . Good examples of his work are .. Signed Sealed Delivered I'm Your's, Abraham Martin and John and of course the unforgettable What's Goin' On. His Bass playing rolls and sustains (which is difficult for the average bass player) for me this track, the bass seems a little contrived and hard hitting. With JJ you never knew where he would go next .

  • @ivanstax Signed Sealed Delivered is notably a bassline played by Bob Babbitt, not by JJ

  • You Know what ? I've studied the work of "THE GREAT JAMES JAMERSON" for 45 years and something about this bass doesn't ring true. It's a great piece of bass playing but it just doesn't feel like JJ. Maybe James Jamerson Jnr can verifiy.

  • @ivanstax you must be wrong. This is the ONLY song credited to James Jamerson. it feels without a doubt like JJ to me

  • hey thanks for posting! anyone know the year this track was recorded?

  • @joepc1022 it's 1969. A non-Motown album by Earl Van Dyke & The Soul Brothers

  • james jamerson=the jimi hendrix of bass.

  • If you searched for "funk bass" on YouTube, 99% percent of the results consist of videos with slapping and popping and very fast licking, all so great and perfect and quick and cool and... sooo forgettable when one hears this!

Why is that so? Can't tell. Seems like James managed to put "something more" in it.

    RiP dude!

  • @ivanstax just listen to home cookin' it the same melody!!!!

  • @ivanstax Credits can be lazy afterthoughts too! I love soul, I don't hear JJ in this song. And yes, lke s'one else mentioned, there was BB (altho' don't hear him in this either!) JJ's influence maybe...but even the horn voicings are a bit 'empty', like s'one didn't show up for the recording session...a quick "session" fix?? Who will ever know.

Anyway, the soul of the music lives on, and that's the main thing! : )

  • now i know where the beatle got helter skelter from.

  • "i'm the best bass player ever, bitch!"

  • i don`t care what ANYONE says, THIS MAN, IS........the jimi hendricks of bass. he inspired me to play the bass

  • @BenderFesk Paul Jackson was a fine player when he recorded with Herbie Hancock. Some of his lines are, in my opinion, the most exciting i ever herd. Of course JJ was already on the scene and has touched most of the bass players

  • @bassistlovesjamerson wrong....its Babbitt

  • @TheMastFravekator

It's Jamerson without a doubt on Signed Sealed Delivered

  • @TheMastFravekator There's a disturbance in the funk. I sense a fake scholar! This is undoubtedly Jamerson.
