Gavin on the Micra:
This car filled Ciro with so much rage he started boxing.
I didn't hate it, it committed a far more heinous crime by just being so forgettable. I remember more about the last time I used earbuds than this car.
I must say it handled like a chip packet in a gust which somehow still didn't make it exciting.
Another car manufacturer who made the new one worse than the old one. It's like they don't want to upset their parents so they end up making something so safe, boring and bad that their parents might pretend to like it but are secretly disappointed.
And it's a pity, the last Micra was a really good car.
The same company made the mind bogglingly tech cool GT-R. I mean, can you Imagine the end of year Christmas party at Nissan and you're stuck at the Nissan Micra team while the GT--R engineers are shooting apples off each other's heads with crossbows with Kanye West and bedding woman while you're stuck with alcohol free eggnog and a man in a reindeer sweater telling you about his collection of orthopedic shoes.
Ciro on the Micra:

If I had never driven the first Micra I probably wouldn't have minded the new one so much. On the face of it, its not a bad car. The engine is quite a little marvel. I couldn't believe it was just a little 1.2 litre, it feels much bigger and much more powerful than its size would suggest.
You do get a lot of car for your money. Its significantly bigger and roomier than rivals like the Toyota Yaris. But that's pretty much where the good news ends.
The old Micra had a wonderful solid feel to it. The plastics were all higher grade, it just felt good in there. But in the new Micra, it feels like you're sitting in one of those plastic log cabins you can buy for your kids at the toy store.
I hated the seats. They look bland but worse, they do not even try and hold you in place. I don't need a racing seat, but I felt like I was going to fall out of thing every time I took a corner. Its like driving around on a park bench.
And then lastly, the biggest crime of all -- the looks. It doesn't have any. It looks like a discarded upside down Jacuzzi. There are no lines to speak of, no features to catch your eye.
But, for R127 500, there are much, much worse options out there in this segment. No matter what I say, Nissan will sell millions of these things I'm sure.
BMW 530d
We drove this car a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to talk about it ever since. It's quite possibly the best car I've driven all year, mostly because it manages to be hugely sensible and exciting at the same time.
Like driving a v8 with consumption of a 2.0 litre
Revs like a petrol, at idle barely know its there
Loved how it constantly bothered the traction control
Exceptionally smooth even on crappy run flats
Seriously trick interior, amazing voice interaction
TVs were a hit with mates/children
Huge boot
Love the design -- bonnet like a manta ray
The parking system deserves special mention. Four cameras combine to give a birds eye view while you're parking. I felt like perhaps BMW had invented a hovercraft that followed you around and waited for you to park. If you cant park with this aid you should just surrender your license.
