  • Why do you keep so much weight on your front foot? That looks ridiculous.

  • @rdhayes06 Thank you very much for your comment. For obvious reasons during application the movements may not hold the same aesthetic appeal as when executed in the form. The weight shifts to the rear when there is reason to do so and only to the degree that is nessessary. The video is only meant to point out some elements of rollback not all. If you were backed into a corner could you not still perform rollback if attacked? Be careful not to become a slave to the form because it's only a tool

  • One might argue that rollback was over before the "snapping" part started; the arm-break itself is "split" energy ("lie"), not rollback.

  • This is very true. It can also be argued that the two are not necessarily independant of each other since the snap can occur during any point of the action. Since the cause of the snap is the opponents inability to keep up with the sudden change in speed of the action. Hence the snap can occur at any point during the action.

  • no prob...i get what ya mean though for sure.

  • Well they're the same thing. Basically what I meant was if you're not truly threatened you won't show any skill, sorry to confuse.

  • oh ok i get that part...i just dont understand why you said if you find a teacher "that still teaches tai chi or bagua in a no threat no skill display manner, you better latch on quick" ... dont you mean you better run and find a better teacher quick someone who will test with skill and some intent to attack you?

  • I mean someone who's never used it on a real attacker who outweighs him by 100 lbs and has real street intent can't teach you anything, no matter how good the form is.

You have to really fight to know if it works, and fight often. A real master will at some point test you like this. Thats why if you're serious about it, you'll go bounce at some night clubs after you've acquired some skill (and have some striking/grappling in your toolbox as well - best to have that as a base). Sure way to learn

  • @papasaun01 ???? what do you mean....search for a school that doesnt teach the martial aspect to tai chi or bagua??

  • A thousand years ago thats exactly how it was practiced. They needed to know what worked so yes full speed they went. It was a necessity in that time period to have this ability, but we don't need it anymore. If you find a school that still teaches Tai Chi or Bagua in a no threat no skill display manner, you better latch on quick.

  • Taiji is very difficult to understand. The 'energy' used in tai chi is very complex and takes about 9 years of full time training (5-8 hours a day) to utilize this force correctly.

  • Looks an awful lot like James Lacy's living-room..please say it isn't so..please..
