Learn to knit an easy short row heel using the garter stitch. This version has no wraps to pick up and is more comfortable and durable than a traditional stockinette short row heel. Part 1 of 2.
I have been doing your older version of the garter heel, where you add in stitches to bring the stitch count to 36. In this version you are only doing 33 stitches without doing any increases. How many total stitches did you start out with? Why did you eliminate the increases. I like the changes to the heel, it seems easier to do. I work with a 64 stitch sock...is the reason you work 33 stitches because it gives you an even number of wraps on each side with 5 in the middle?
