My friend's mom used to have one of these. I couldn't even fit in it without my head hitting the ceiling when I was in middle school. And that was BEFORE puberty and growth spurts and all that nonsense. Still a cool car, though.

Our american friends can't differ dutch (= netherlands) from deutsch(=german).
Those are two different languages, though it sounds alike.
That clip was german = deutsch.

The original ideas that VW had in the past are long gone. There is no simplicity in their vehicles anymore. They are in business for the money now competing with the other car manufactures making Honda and Toyota looking vehicles. Tucker had the same idea and the Government crushed him as well. It's truly sad that people with great ideas will only be allowed into the market when they walk a straight line with all the other sheep and build a totally different product then what they had in mind.

This proves that rear engine is superior for passenger cars and vans.

I think they´re the same car, at least they look the same, but I think the Variant designation was more used in Europe while the Squareback subname was used more in America
And I thought I couldn't fall in love anymore with the Squareback. Thanks for this great Dutch commercial.
