One of the biggest pyramids in the americas and it has been closed to the public since 1536.
The last battle between the Pizarro brothers and the last of the Inca rules, Manco, was faught not 1000 feet from it.
Spaniards could only last another day battling their foe as they had been weakened by weeks of an exhuasting siege Manco had impossed on Lima. Not understood to this date, Manco suddenly pulled his army from battle and retreated with his army, treasures and the remnants of the INCA CAST never to be seen again by spaniards. It is belived he died decades later in Machu Pichu, others are convinced the real Machu Pichu is yet to be found.
