Trying out some ideas for MusicalNodes, the visual music library. This video shows gravity-based sorting by artist name, but any other property (like rating) can be used as well...
MusicalNodes is a music library like iTunes or Winamp, only better. Besides showing your music database visually, you can also spatially make selections for playlists. It also has a proper search function and tagging system, combined with user defined (musical) properties.
Note on the added gravity: In addition to this vertical sorting, other forces could be added to sort from left to right or even concentrically (close/far from the cloud center).
MusicalNodes was presented at EVA London, 2010. The proceedings should be available at the British Computing Society's website.
