Hock Family Pavilion, Duke University Health Systems new, 12-bed hospice facility, opened in the spring of 2009 on Roxboro Road in Durham.

It provides the same interdisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, chaplains, nursing assistants, bereavement counselors and volunteers services as its six-bed facility in Hillsborough, Duke Hospice at the Meadowlands.

The facility was named in honor of the $1.5 million dollar gift given to Duke Hospice by Gary Hock and Jim Hock, both local philanthropists.

The facility features 12 private patient rooms, 24-hour skilled nursing care, and flat screen TVs for all 12 patient rooms - plus TVs for the family room and the nurses thanks to the Duke Hospital Auxiliary.
Duke Hospices inpatient care facilities provide 24 hour skilled nursing care to Duke Hospice patients who cannot manage their symptoms and/or control their pain at home. Hospice care addresses the physical, emotion and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones.

Last fiscal year, Duke Hospice served the needs of 900 patients and their families. The majority of hospice care was provided in the patients home, but over 260 patients received care at Duke Hospice at the Meadowlands last year.
