Genevieve Bujold is a VERY good actress, but unfortunately this role was not for her. Too bad she couldn't act this role as well as she did in COMA...where she did use her voice, body and could emote greatly. Kate Mulgrew could do all those things...and in the end was the best choice for Capt. Janeway!

I would not compare her to Vulcans--Vulcans are dry and cold when they speak, but their diction is very deliberate, as to denote their penchant for being cerebral rather than emotional...This women, however, just seems befuddled with the dialogue--SHe's having a tough time delivering it.

Shelby's character would have. Mulgrew was terrible. I'm sure she has a following. I just did not like the actress and the part she played

Of all the Trek series, Voyager was definitely the most "science-oriented". The role of captain required more unwieldy technical jargon than any of the previous captain roles. Kate Mulgrew handled it exceptionally well, even better than I think Patrick Stewart could have (Capt Picard did not have to speak nearly as much techno-babble as Janeway did). It was tough for any actor, no matter how skilled.

Just curious, but why would you have chosen Shelby as a suitable Captain Janeway? Shelby's delivery was markedly different from what woulda been required of Capt Janeway--It almost sounds like you're implying "anyone with breasts" could have filled the role.

I'm sure she's a capable actress otherwise--But she woulda been murder to listen to for 7 seasons..I'm glad Kate Mulgrew took over.
