"It's taken a whole lifetime, it's taken over 40 years," says David Bahr, who recently earned a PhD in English from the Graduate Center and has accepted a tenure-track professorship at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Despite the length of time, Bahr is happy that he has finally found some order in his life that he didn't have during his unsettled childhood. "For me getting my PhD and then getting a job is actually an experience of actual stability and accomplishment, which up until a few months ago I did not think was a possibility."
