Eurovision 1972 - Germany

Mary Roos performing "Nur die Liebe Läßt uns Leben" ("Only Love Lets Us Live"), the German entry at the Eurovision Song Contest.

A strong start to an even stronger contest (one of my favorite from the 70s, actually), this is a hopeful, optimistic ballad with an epic touch (the kind of song the Germans had also excelled at with two successive Katja Ebstein entries the previous years) with a great arrangement (love the percussion!) and an excellent performance by Mary - who'd return to the contest in 1984 with the much-loved-by-fans "Aufrecht Geh'n".

I agree about the bongos! They don't fit at all to this arrangement. Bongos makes no sense in this song. Nevertheless, great melody, great singing of Mary Roos.
