What is working for me is that during my short game practice, I will hit about 10-15 flop shot before I go into the green side bunker. The reason is that it is in essence the same swing. It is a flop shot that is hit slightly fat. if you grip the club normally and dig your feet in you will hit a fat flop shot in the sand. Then all you do is make some minor adjustments by finding out how much to grip up or down to get the right about of "fat".
This works for me everytime.

Hi Shawn, I always have problems playing greenside bunker shots. Pls help with the following:
(1) how do I play normal bunker shots with ball sitting slightly in sand that are 10 yds, 25yds or 50yds to the pin. Do I use a normal full backswing & control my momentum or shorten my backswing?
(2)When using an open face SW or LW, must I also use a slightly open stance.
(3)How to play greenside bunker shots onto chest high greens.
Thanks.Michael

Sorry I did not reply earlier; for question 1; the length of the backswing determines the amount of momentum; see "golf pro lesson how to feel the short swing"; yes on #2; see my "golf pro lesson flop cut lob shot"; #3; same technique as the flop shot; open as far as it will go and add more momentum; the stance will open up more and the swing will be more of a cut swing naturally; it will come out no problem as long as your focus is on the skip of the sand and not on trying to list the ball...

Hi Shawn! How does this lesson change when the sand is hard (like after it has been raining)? My guess is that you simply treat it like a chip shot from the fairway.

Hey Itrat!
This is when you need to use your lob wedge which has less bounce; generally it has 4 to 6 degrees less of bounce than the 56 degree sand wedge which helps when the sand is shallow or wet;
