Local cab driver recognized for going the extra mile

Good manners, two i-Pods and a passion for conversation are what separate Yellow Cab driver Abdelhak Choubane from the competition.

He was recognized as a winner of the Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau's "Go the EXTRA Mile" competition.

Before the Democratic National Convention came to the Mile High City in August, thousands of restaurant workers, security guards, taxi drivers and hotel employees took a crash course in popular local attractions and received a healthy dose of advice on how to treat visitors. The intent was to showcase all that Denver has to offer.

Choubane attended the program, which honed his already keen hospitality skills. Choubane - who speaks five languages including French, which he learned growing up in Morocco - said he always practices "savoir vivre" or "good manners."

Choubane said he wants all of his customers to feel at home while riding in his cab. He carries two i-Pods in order to have the right music for every passenger. He also enjoys engaging passengers in conversation, with topics ranging from books to politics to food. (As a graduate of culinary school, he knows the last topic particularly well.)

While his approaches are varied, Choubane's approach to customer service is simple. "You have to show them that you're excited that they're in your cab and they're here in Denver," he said.

Choubane was awarded two round trip airline tickets to anywhere in the U.S. and a Blue Bear statue by Convention and Visitors Bureau. Denver Yellow Cab also provided a cash reward.

Choubane is nearing a decade with Yellow Cab. "He always goes above and beyond the call of duty to make sure Yellow Cab's customers are treated to excellent and timely service," said Randy Jensen of Yellow Cab. "We are proud of him and the example he sets."

Yellow Cab has been serving Denver and Boulder communities for over 100 years. With our recent expansion of Yellow Cab in Ft Collins we now provide quality Yellow Cab Mobility & Taxi services from south Denver to Northern Colorado
