The best times for my Air-X wind turbine to capture power from the wind in the summer are just after sunrise 6:00am - 9:00am and mid afternoon 4:00pm - 6:00pm on clear days. The warming and cooling periods of the day create nice steady winds that the Air-X really likes. While summer storm gusty winds create very high instant power readings, the morning and afternoon steady winds produce more useable power in the batteries.

With Winter setting in, Dec, 2008, wind production over the last couple of months has really picked up and is much more constant and useable, day and night. Wind energy production has increased from 40-60kw/month in the summer to over 200kw/month in the winter. This has really suplimented my solar which has dropped down as the days are much shorter now.

  • Hi,

I just bought an AIRX for a very low price. Now I'm wondering if it will be too noisy to mount in a subdivision. What's your site like and how noisy is your turbine?

    Greg

  • Hi Greg,

My Air-X makes very little noise, about the same level as leaves in the wind. My neighbours say they never hear it and we have 40' lots.

I have another video posted that has sound to you can hear it running.

You may want to check with local zoning to see if there are any restrictions you may have to comply with and ask your neighbours for permission.

    Enjoy your free, green energy!

  • does this turbine you have there always face the same direction, or does it turn automatically INTO the wind?

  • The Air-X automatically turns into the wind. It also has its own charge controller to prevent battery over charging and slows down and stops when batteries are full. It also has a high wind protection feature, which stops the blades from turning during very high damaging wind speeds and resumes when wind speeds slow down.

  • My Air-X is averaging 1.2kwh per day, some days more and some less. Because I live in the city, I am limited to a 30' tower height which cuts its production ability, but it works great for powering my deck lights and stuff as outlined in the write up in my other Air-x Video. I have .75kw of solar which power almost 1/2 of my house requirements. I just put in a SunTracker and have a 50w panel for testing and the results are impressive. I'm also in the middle of converting to solar hot water.
