Los indígenas Huicholes viven en lugares virtualmente inaccesibles de los estados de Nayarit y Jalisco, bordeando la Sierra Madre Occidental en una región inhóspita de aproximadamente 15,000 millas cuadradas esparcidos en comunidades aparentadas entre si.
The Huichol Indians live in virtually inaccessible areas of the states of Nayarit and Jalisco, straddling the Sierra Madre Occidental in an inhospitable region of about 15,000 square miles in scattered kinship settlements.
Las imágenes expresadas en su arte, representan historias y leyendas de su mitología, que organiza cada aspecto de su mundo y sus vidas. La base de sus rituales son los cantos de los marakames (chamanes). Su arte es una traducción física literal de las imágenes visualizadas en un estado de amplia conciencia, inducida por su cactus sagrado. Este arte es también una manifestación tangible de sus experiencias en el reino de los dioses para que cada uno de nosotros vea, toque y comulgue, siendo de esa manera un medio para nuestra propia contemplación y transformación.
The Images expressed in their artwork are always representing stories, legends of their mythology that organize every aspect of their world and lives. The basis of their rituals are the songs of the Shamans. Their art is a literal physical translation of imagery seen during their expanded state of awareness, induced by their sacred cactus. This art is a tangible manifestation of their experience in the realm of the gods for each of us to see, touch, and commune with, becoming vehicles for our own contemplation and transformation.

foreigners need to stop buying this sort of art. foreigners should keep their money and stop trying to convert indigenous people to the money system. foreigners need to take their alcohol and their religion and go back to their foreign countries and stop interfering in our tribal ways. they can take my computer with them back to their foreign places too i guess.
