In this the first edition of Contractor Profiles we visit two large contracting fleets,Ronnie Lenihan in Cork and Eddie Walsh in Kerry.
Ronnie and sons run an impressive fleet of customised John Deere tractors from their base near Mallow. We catch up with them in full flight at first cut silage and get their opinion on the machines they run including the pre-production Krone Big M 420,one of only 2 working in Ireland for the 2011 season.
Next we head to the Kingdom and catch up with Eddie Walsh,a man with over 30 years experience contracting throughout North Kerry.Running a fleet of 200hp Same tractors he recalls machines he has owned from a Ford 7600 pulling a Kidd double chop in the 70's upto the massive 22ton Volvo L110F loader he currently runs.
With something for all age groups Contractor Profiles is a must for anyone with a passion for agricultural machinery

  • How much do they charge per acre.I'm just wondering how they can make a decent profit with the massive cost of the machinery. How many seasons would it take for a Krone big M to pay for itself. This way of silage making has more or less died out in my part of the country .Its now all round baling and wrapping we do.Surely they are just working to keep the bank manager happy!!!

  • @willyphelan I recently heard of a contractor who was charging 110e per acre.
