TO GET BETTER IN GENERAL----------------------------
Get comfortable with playing guitar hero if your not already.
If your struggling with songs on hard its because you have not yet become comfortable with moving your fingers up and down the frets. Once you can move your fingers up and down the frets at will always knowing where your fingers are without looking, then things such as tapping and hitting difficult solos become a lot easier.
To get better at this there really is only one way and that is playing the game quite a bit. For some people it takes a lot longer to get comfortable moving your hands up and down the frets without looking, but for others they pick it up quickly. Dont get discouraged if you mess up a lot. All of the pros you see in the mlg and here on youtube that you all watch and have like 10000 subscribers all started out sucking at what they do. They loved the game so they played constantly and that obviously leads to getting better. Ive played guitar hero for 3 years. And for about the entire first year I could not pass through the fire and flames and for the first 6 months I played on medium-hard.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------TTFAF TIPS
1.Okay so you can pass most songs on expert but when it comes to ttfaf you down right suck. Thats o.k because ttfaf is actually a different type of song then most of the songs in gh3. It requires the player to be able to move there fret hand very fast while holding down green and strumming to keep them from failing, or tapping the intro.
The way that you want to start off in the beginning is using one hand and strumming, I dont like telling people to try this way because it does not usually work every time but its easier than learning to tap.
TIP: When starting out with the intro with the one hand strumming method I can help to practice the intro on slowest and move your way up slowly, this gives you an idea of what you need to do with your fingers on full speed.
TIP (COULD BE CONSIDERED CHEATING): If your struggling with using your 3 available fingers to hit red, yellow blue and orange while holding down green you can put a rubber band on the green button and try hitting the intro with all your fingers available to use. When you get to the fast strumming just take off the rubber band.
2.Tapping If you want to be able to for sure pass the intro every time you try you need to understand the basics of tapping.
Tapping is when you take your strumming hand off the strum bar and move it up to the fret board to hit hammer-ons. This wont work if you miss just one note. Then you need to strum again. Hammer-ons notes have a glowing inside thats how you know you dont need to strum if you hit the not prior to it.
The best way to learn to tap the ttfaf intro is play the intro on the slowest speed and try out a few different methods. The same thing applies to the outro.
I suggest holding down green with your fret hand and hitting red with your fret hand while tapping yellow blue and orange as it goes by. That in my opinion is the simplest method.
TIP: if your hitting the hammer-ons but losing the note streak every 5 seconds making you fail, you can get some one to strums every time you lose your note streak this way you can keep both your hands on your frets and dont have to worry about losing the note streak.
3.Saving Star Power -. Once you figured out your method for passing the intro and you have passed it your in the clear. Now your next job is to save star power as long as you can until you absolutely need it. This means blinking red. (about to fail). The most common part of the song where people fail is the beginning of the solo. Which is the climatic build-up into the sam solo , the twin solo and the what the. Now if you use star power at the climatic build up then you will not have it for the what the and the twin solo.
The best way to see what one you need it for is to go into practice and practice all 3 sections and see what one you do the worst on.
But I recommend you save it for the twin solo because it is a lot longer than the what the. And a lot harder to hit.
Once you get to the twin solo with star power you can use it even if your not failing. Because it will last till the end of the solo. As long as you have full star power.
TIP: if you cant hit something strum the shit out of it. This will keep you hitting a decent amount of notes so you dont go into red but stay at least in yellow. So when you dont have star power and are going into a difficult solo with fast hammer-ons DO not try to hit all the hammer-ons when you know you cant. Try and hit as many as you can while strumming to prevent failure.
(THIS TIP BECOMES VERY HELPFUL THROUGH OUT THE SONG)
i had to shorten this description. youtube wont let me make it 3 pages long.
That would probably have been me at the end of 99% progression...I cant afford to break my guitars like that though...I'd probably punch the wall...my question: What would work for people with short-assed fingers? My method of tapping is slowed down because of my shorter fingers...but I can hit all 5 buttons with one hand...is two hands a good idea? I'm a suckfard at elbow strumming. That and that is hard kinda...since I stand to play usually. Any advice for that...appreciated much.

@rjamlegend The length of the fingers shouldn't make much of a difference if you're tapping the way I do with index finger of you're left hand on green and using you're middle finger on your're left hand to hit red and then you have you're entire right hand to hit yellow, blue and red. Try this method on slow until you can hit it all, then move to full speed. You should also try playing sitting down because it is much easier. Any more questions feel free to ask.

@DarrenSanch Actually...Green=Index/Red=Middle/Yellow=Ring/Blue&Orange=Pinky of left hand. I tap with my left hand, like I said. And I dont normally sit because the damn chair is too low. Would it be easier to tap and elbow strum with a guitar strap? And...slow...okay...I've never practiced on a slower speed-I'm used to 200% fretboard speed with level 2 Hyperspeed. I guess that may make a difference but...I dont know. Thanks though. Ummm...I'll get back at the grind soon.

@rjamlegend If you play standing up then you NEED to use a strap in order to tap. Lol. And yes practice makes perfect. Also try higher hyperspeed settings. It soreads out the notes making it easier. In my opinion at least.
