Allentown to Baltimore manifest 34A and H24, aka the Hershey Shifter, are seen at Hershey on a perfect fall morning. Both of these trains have noteworthy lashups on them. 34A has a Conrail painted SD50 leading a Dash 9 and an ex-N&W SD40-2, while H24 has a high hood GP38-2 (running LHF) leading an Operation Lifesaver GP38-2. 34A is the freight that supplies cars for H24, making a setout and pickup at Hershey. In addition to the Hershey Foods chocolate plant, H24 also services a General Mills distribution warehouse. It is very unusual to see two engines on the Hershey Shifter as this job generally uses just one.

  • Wasn't the 3rd loco an ex-NW?, Oh, nice to see those GPs, LHF, according to Southern tradition.

  • Wow, very nice. You are lucky to have seen taht 34A and a sunny day on top of that! I have never heard of H24 having two locomotives, but I don't think 5669 is online here.
