With all the talk of "straight-arm" freestyle, some may think a high-elbow recovery is a thing of the past. The majority of swimmers, however, will still use this beautiful standard as the way to swim.

  • k most efficent stroke is straight arm above bent arm pull beneath doing a straight arm pull is just stupid but a straight arm recovery is great :)

  • @JeahForLife - Honestly, there is no "most efficient stroke". It's going to be different for different people. We're also starting to see big time sprinters using more of a straight arm underwater. It takes massive strength and certainly can't be done by everyone, but straighter (not completely straight) is certainly something to look in to.

  • @JeahForLife ok, 27.01 at 12 is not bad, Junior Olympic qualifying time, correct me if I am wrong.

  • @TheWTFers i went a 27.01 just turning 12

  • @JeahForLife how old? 27.01 in 50 free is not fast, maybe you had poor technique to begin with, and straight arm just fixed what ever flaw you had and dropped your time. If swam correctly you could have gone 22 sec.

  • @TheWTFers dude i had a 27.01 in 50 free then i did striaght arm and i went a 24

  • @HungAzn by pros who only swim one event, any knowledgeable coach or a real swimmer will tell you otherwise.

  • @Mojo61305 The momentum built with straight arms will slow you down. Every action has counter reaction. You pull with straight arm you push water down as a reaction you go up, then you push the water back behind you the reaction is that you move forward, then you push the water up the reaction is that you go down. As you can imagine straight arm freestyle you bob up and down when you want to go straight. Instead use lift force to propel throughout the whole stroke.

  • @whatshername2O I would not recommended it period. Unless your a 5 year old kid learning to pull and get the feel for the water.
